Curriculum Overview
At St Bede’s our curriculum is underpinned by our vision to ensure that our students are empowered to serve the common good.
Design & Technology
Design and Technology encourages students to think creatively, acquire key skills and solve problems by developing practical solutions.
Drama
To study drama is to broaden the mind and extend our sympathies. Many of the skills learnt in this subject are transferable, such as memory and speaking skills, as well as the skills of analysis and evaluation.
English
Here at St Bede’s, our English teachers work with our young people to ensure they become literate, thoughtful members of the wider community with sound foundations not only for academic success but for life beyond school.
Geography
We believe that Geography is a vital subject that enables young people to develop important life skills and learn about the fascinating world around them.
History
The aim of the History curriculum at St Bede’s is to fire pupils’ curiosity to ask questions and know more about Britain’s past and that of the wider world.
Mathematics
We aim to develop our students to be well rounded and enthusiastic mathematicians by developing skills of resilience and independence.
Media Studies
GCSE Media Studies is a two-year course which enables our pupils to develop and demonstrate skills of enquiry, critical thinking, decision-making and analysis.
Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)
The MFL Department at St Bede’s is ambitious, experienced and specialised. It has very high standards of teaching and learning and aims to create skilled, enthusiastic and independent language learners as well as educated global citizens.
Music
‘Music speaks to all’. In music, we aim to unlock the potential of every pupil, by delivering an ambitious, spiral curriculum that speaks to all, regardless of ability or need.
Physical Education
At St Bede’s Catholic High School, we aim to create the best experience for all pupils in Physical Education. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum to ensure that pupils develop competence to excel in a wide range of physical activities.
Religious Education
As a Catholic school, we share and promote the vision for Religious Education set out by the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of England and Wales. According to Pope St John Paul II, RE is the “core of the core curriculum” in a Catholic school.
Science
Science is changing our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity, and all students should be taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes, and uses of science.
